Research Focus
The Photonics Modelling Group investigates numerically and analytically several phenomena in the field of laser physics and nonlinear optics.
Current research focuses on:
- Optical frequency combs: The group has been collaborating since meany years with the University of Bari and the Polytechnic of Turin in the study of multimode dynamics in lasers.
More recently we started a collaboration with Harvard University which led to the prediction and experimental realization of optical frequency combs in Quantum Cascade Lasers.
In parallel, we work with the University of Valencia in the elaboration of new, more complete models of laser modelocking. - High-dimensional entanglement for quantum imaging applications: The research group has a long-term expertise in modelling sources of entangled photon pairs generated in the process of parametric down-conversion in χ(2) nonlinear crystals.
We investigate how the quantum correlations characterizing those multi-mode light sources propagate in free space as well as in dispersive media, to assess their potential for quantum enhanced imaging applications. This research line is in the framework of the national research project “Enhancing multiphoton Light-matter Interactions with Space-time Entanglement – ELISE” (PRIN 2022K3KMX7).
